"Quick," she said, "make a wish," and I did. I wished for the thing I wanted so much to come true, and before my thought had finished she instructed me to hold onto it. For a full minute, I held it in my mind and thought how wonderful it would be if my wish came true.

"I wish... I wish... I wish..." echoed in my thoughts.

"Maybe if we make a wish at these times, they will come true," she explained, and I thought the notion a beautiful one. It's been far too long since I had a reason to believe in magic. Far too long since I thought that maybe wishes really do come true. So I've decided to keep on believing--keep on making those wishes--because I still want the world to be a wonderful place.

I hope these wishes I've made do come true, because I did not make them for me. All my wishes have been for her, and I do not think it should have been any other way.

"I wish for [her] to find happiness; for [her] to be happy."
"I wish for [her] to find peace of mind."
"I wish for [her] to do what's best for her."

I put my hands next to the fire
They didn't burn
But my heart sure did
When I look down deep into that fire
I can see what it really is
It struggles to live like the rest of us
Stretches to the stars
Crouches to the ground
And as I looked, I learned
Sometimes you mustn't worry
About the flame
Worry for the flame
It is as mortal as we are
And I live again
with a flame in my heart
And I love the flame
And I wish it would live forever
